About Me
Thanks for being here!
I totally appreciate you taking the time to visit my humble website.
I am super excited to share my love of travel destinations, travel experiences, tips and plans, birds and wildlife with you via my photography and writing.
Here’s a bit about me – I’m honest, up front and no nonsense. I tell it like it is and I may swear if deemed necessary.
Since I was a young girl, I’ve been an animal lover – anything wildlife and specifically birds. This early passion lead to studies majoring in Zoology at university. Despite my career not leading to further work in that field, my love of the natural world has remained throughout my life.
Over the past 35 years, I have also been fortunate to experience some amazing places across our planet by way of trips with our family, close friends and relatives.
During this time I have travelled to and experienced: France, Italy, Spain, Bali, Fiji, the Maldives, USA, the UK (England, Scotland, and Ireland) Canada, New Zealand, Israel, China, Japan, Vietnam – and more.
Now more mature but still a self-confessed bird nerd, my passions for birds and wildlife, and the natural progression to an interest in wildlife conservation, are stronger than ever and my recent dive into the world of photography has driven me to capture this passion in pictorial form.
My travels have enabled me to pursue opportunities to enhance the skills developed since I graduated from point-and-shoot cameras to a DSLR in 2016, and have now moved to the marvellous medium of mirrorless cameras with a Nikon Z6ii. I am keen to continue this growth on future trips both locally and eventually overseas.
In 2020 my focus turned from what I was doing for the past 16 years (bookkeeping) to what I love and I hope to share with you – travel stories, photography tips, tour ideas. Since graduating with a Cert III in travel from Open Colleges in early 2020, I have continued to hone my photographic skills and am proud of what I have achieved so far, particularly in composition, but I still have much to learn.
Since March 2023 I have been employed as a Domestic Travel Designer with My Travel Experience/Australia & New Zealand Travel Company. I’m enjoying my new part time role, learning all aspects of the retail travel business from my colleagues who have decades of experience. We are a small boutique full service agency, with no shopfront, and can handle all our clients travel needs.
With international travel now back on the agenda, I’m looking forward to opportunities to travel more and to utilise my photographic and writing skills to highlight places, people and destinations.
I completed a travel writing course with well-known travel writer Rob McFarland, as well as many mini courses on photography, basic business and organisation during multiple lockdowns in 2020 and 2021
